ax-lightness ULTRA 35CX – The lightest carbon wheelset for gravel and cyclocross
With the ULTRA 35CX, ax-lightness combines its accumulated expertise from cycling, automotive, and ski manufacturing into a wheelset that knows no compromises. The shallow 35 mm profile with a 30 mm external width and 24 mm internal rim width delivers a lively, direct ride feel – ideal for climbers, all-round riders, and anyone demanding maximum agility on gravel and cyclocross terrain. With a total weight of just 1,090 grams (including tubeless rim tape, ± 5 %), it is one of the lightest disc wheelsets with carbon bladed spokes on the market. The approved system weight of 130 kg demonstrates its structural stability despite the uncompromising lightweight construction.
The ULTRA 35CX uses 20 stiff carbon bladed spokes per wheel, laced in a 2-cross pattern for even load distribution, high lateral and torsional stiffness, and extremely direct power transfer. These spokes are the key difference compared to the SELECTION series: they provide a noticeably stiffer and more responsive ride feel – crucial during explosive accelerations, hard sprints, and technical cyclocross sections.
The in-house ax-lightness ULTRA CX hubs with ratchet freehub and ceramic bearings consistently minimize rolling resistance. Compared to steel bearings, ceramic balls measurably reduce friction and provide longer service life – an advantage that becomes particularly noticeable during intensive racing use. The matte UD finish with black laser-etched decals gives the wheelset the uncompromising look of the ULTRA line. Proven in use by the Continental Team BENOTTI Berthold.
